Dehang Miao Village & Grand Canyon
“Dehang”, in Miao language, means:”Beautiful Valley”. Sure it is. It just insets in the center bottom of gorgeous mountains, the view there is sort of like Zhangjiajie. No wonder, it has been taken as the most beautiful Miao Village in Western Hunan. Besides experiencing the Miao’s surroundings and culture, there are 2 hikes we can do there, 1 is to a waterfall called “Flying Sand” (2hours flat walk), the other is to a stunning view platform called ” Questioning Sky”(3 hours with a half part hiking up).
Situated 20 kilometers in the west suburbs from Jishou city , Dehang Grand Canyon embraces a typical karst landscape. Besides the world famous Aizhi Wingding Road and Liusha Waterfall, the highest of its kind in China. Dehang is famous for the Suspension Bridge. With a main span of 1.176 meters over the Grand Dehang C anyon and a fall of 400 meters, the suspension bridge is the most prominent of its kind around the world. It seems like walking in the air when you set your feet on the bridge. Dehang Miao village , composed of only about 820 dance-loving households, is well known for the Miao Drum Dance, from where comes out three king s of Drum Dance. Main festivals celebrated here include the thir day of the third lunar mouth, the eighth day of the fourth lunar month,bull-fighting festival , Sister’s Day and the New Year of Miao ethnics which is the grandest around the whole year . Activities such as Miao Songs,Miao Dances,Bull fighting ,Bull Racing are all bold and joyous . In Dehang , Visitors may visit local households where they may have a chance to extract oil, make paper,weave cloth and grind rice by themselves. If visitors are invited for a dinner by the hostess, they can personally experience the impressive local culture: rice bowl with blue wave patterns, chopsticks made of bamboo, big liquor bowls, meat served in large pieces, dishes featuring sour and spicy flavors.
